Sadly pre-VMA coverage has been depressing, with Suge Knight getting shot at a pre-party, Nicki Minaj's backup dancer getting bit by a snake at a rehearsal and Iggy Azelea falling from the stage. So let's put a happier spin on the ceremony and look at some of the music videos nominated for VMAs that will inspire you to travel.

Beyonce: "Drunk in Love" featuring Jay-Z

What makes you want to go to the beach more than Beyonce prancing around one, belly-dancing in a bikini? (Caution: Explicit lyrics in the video.)

John Legend: "All of Me"

Shot in Italy, this music video basically fulfills every girl’s dream of vacationing in Italy with a man that sings you romantic songs like John Legend.

Lana del Rey: "West Coast"

As usual, Lana del Rey’s alternative and alluring video makes the West Coast look glamorous, sultry and, well, full of beaches worth visiting.

Beyonce: "Partition"

This 1920s-inspired raunchy video is set in Paris, partially at the Crazy Horse cabaret. This video, nominated for best choreography as well as best female video, will not only make you want to go to Paris, but also it'll make you wish you could dance like Beyonce. (Caution: Explicit lyrics in the video.)

Pitbull featuring Ke$ha: "Timber"

This catchy tune features Ke$ha in a Southern bar and Pitbull on a beach. It's not clear what the connection is between the two locations or the theme of the song. But Ke$ha makes Southern bars look like the best place to party, and Pitbull is singing on a gorgeous beach.

Jason DeRulo: Talk Dirty to Me"

Jason Derulo apparently has lipstick stamps on his passport. Do you?

Pitbull featuring Ke$ha: "Timber"

This catchy tune features Ke$ha in a Southern bar and Pitbull on a beach. It's not clear what the connection is between the two locations or the theme of the song. But Ke$ha makes Southern bars look like the best place to party, and Pitbull is singing on a gorgeous beach.

City of Angels: "30 Seconds to Mars"

This music video is a real work of art, but it also seems like a convincing advertisement for why you should visit Los Angeles. Between shots of majestic LA horizons and cityscapes, a series of prominent stars profess both their love and their confliction of feelings for the star-studded city of angels.

Kiesza: "Hideaway"

Kiesza dances through Brooklyn wearing high-waisted jeans, suspenders, red lipstick and sporting a crew of hipster dancers behind her. This video makes you want to visit Brooklyn, even if only to find out if hipsters there really do dance down the streets in suspenders.

Calvin Harris: "Summer"

Calvin Harris walking down an unnamed, scenic and perhaps deeply metaphoric road: if the lyrics and general gist of this song don’t already make you want to go on vacation, its scenery and party scenes certainly will.

Schoolboy Q: "Man of the Year"

Your beach vacation probably won’t come replete with a crew of girls in bikinis like School Boy Q’s Hawaiian video does. But hey, you never know. If not, Hawaii looks beautiful regardless.
