About This Place
Nice (formerly, Clear Lake Villas) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, California, United States. Nice is located 4.5 miles (7.2 km) southeast of Upper Lake, at an elevation of 1362 feet (415 m). The population was 2,731 at the 2010 census, up from 2,509 at the 2000 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.5 km²), all of it land.
The town was originally called Clear Lake Villas, until Charles William Bayne renamed the place after his former home town, Nice, France, around 1930. The Nice post office opened in 1930.
