According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.1 km²), of which, 1.5 square miles (4.0 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (1.27%) is water. Is self-described as the "Gateway to Big Hill Lake."
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,386 people, 982 households, and 639 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,537.2 people per square mile (594.3/km²). There were 1,142 housing units at an average density of 735.7 per square mile (284.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.09% White, 0.08% African American, 1.97% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 1.30% from other races, and 2.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.77% of the population.
