Chetopa is a city in Labette County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,281 at the 2000 census. Chetopa was named for Chief Chetopa, an Osage Indian chief.
Chetopa is located at 37°2′15″N 95°5′31″W / 37.0375°N 95.09194°W / 37.0375; -95.09194 (37.037452, -95.091892). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.5 km²), of which, 1.3 square miles (3.3 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (6.62%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,281 people, 560 households, and 341 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,004.9 people per square mile (389.4/km²). There were 651 housing units at an average density of 510.7 per square mile (197.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 89.15% White, 2.26% African American, 6.32% Native American, 0.08% from other races, and 2.19% from two or more races.
