Leitchfield is a city in and the county seat of Grayson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 6,139 at the 2000 census. The city is named for Major David Leitch, who owned the land on which the city was settled.
Leitchfield is in the eastern end of the Western Coal Fields in Kentucky and exhibits some karst topography. It is located along the Western Kentucky Parkway at the junction of Kentucky Route 259. U.S. Route 62 intersects Kentucky Route 259 at the middle of town. Leitchfield is situated between Rough River Lake to the north and Nolin River Lake to the south.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.8 square miles (23 km2), of which, 8.796 square miles (22.78 km2) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) of it (0.34%) is water.
