Lamar is a city in Barton County, Missouri, United States. The population was 4,474 at the 2011 census. It is the county seat of Barton County. Lamar is well known as the birthplace of President Harry S. Truman.
Lamar is located at 37°29′37″N 94°16′20″W / 37.49361°N 94.27222°W / 37.49361; -94.27222 (37.493676, -94.272111). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 square miles (10.8 km²), of which, 3.8 square miles (9.9 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (7.25%) is water.
