Coquille ( /koʊkiːl/) is a city that is the county seat of Coos County, Oregon, United States. The population was 4,184 at the 2000 census. The 2007 estimate is 4,215 residents.[citation needed] The primary economic base is the timber industry. The city derives its name from the Coquille Indian tribe.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.7 square miles (7.1 km²), of which, 2.7 square miles (7.0 km²) of it is land and 0.37% is water.
Coquille is bordered by the Coquille River which drains part of the Coastal Range into the Pacific Ocean at Bandon.
