South Abington Township is a township in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,073 at the 2010 census. The town is sometimes referenced to as Chinchilla.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 9.1 square miles (23.6 km²), of which, 9.0 square miles (23.2 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (1.54%) is water.

The racial makeup of the township was 93.6% White, 1.3% African American, 0.1% Native American, 3.4% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.4% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.9% of the population.
