99 Robinson St
Broome, Western Australia 6725
Why are we called “1861”? 1861 was the defining year in Broome's history. A new species, the pearl oyster Pinctada maxima was discovered in Roebuck Bay and turned out to be the largest pearl shell in the world. The size of the shell was huge in comparison to any other shell available and caused a sensation in European and American markets. The average size of the 'pinctada shell' was six to twelve inches across. Open for Breakfast and Dinner, 1861 Restaurant & Bar offers casual dining in a relaxed atmosphere, complemented by a delicious selection of food choices.
