Annapolis Valley First Nation (AVFN) was established in 1880 and is situated in the picturesque Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, within Mi’kma’ki, the unseeded ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq people. Through a focus on education, economic development, and collaboration with neighboring communities, AVFN strives for self-sufficiency.
AVFN proudly owns 300 acres of pristine land in St. Croix, Nova Scotia, rich in old growth Acadian Forest, along with the acquisition of a 711-acre farm known as Webster Farm. This farm has been a vital source of employment, cultivating high-quality crops such as strawberries, raspberries, beans, and wheat for both the local community and beyond.
Despite facing challenges due to the historical impact of the Shubenacadie Indian Residential School, AVFN is dedicated to preserving and revitalizing its language and culture for future generations. Building upon its legacy of skilled basket makers and a tradition of hunting and fishing in Mi’kma’ki, AVFN continues to honor its heritage while embracing a path of learning and empowerment.
