Generations of Limerick people will be familiar with the Hartmann name, both as jewellers and opticians. Helga Hartmann is the managing optometrist and is the fourth generation of the family in the business. In 1877 Josef and Emilie established their jewellery business in Limerick. In 1930 their son Michael qualified as an optician following which the premises was extended to facilitate his optometry practice. This makes Hartmann’s one of the oldest practices in the country. He in turn was followed into the business by his son Patrick whose real passion was optometry. He closed the jewellery business in 1992 in order to concentrate solely on his optometry practice. Patrick was delighted to be joined in the business by his daughters Helga and Thecla. Helga qualified as an occupational therapist first and then an optometrist and continues to maintain the high standards set by her predecessors. Linda Feeney (optometrist) joined Hartmann opticians in 2016. The optometrists Helga and Linda are supported by an enthusiastic and friendly team of optical assistants; Ciara, Rachel and Kate.
