The Hon. Daryl Vaz, MP is the Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport. The Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport (MSETT), previously known as the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology (MSET), underwent a pivotal transformation in 2023. The Telecommunication and Transport portfolios were seamlessly integrated, marking a new era for Jamaica's approach to these sectors. The major priorities of this Administration for the Ministry are the creation of an enabling environment to facilitate access to alternative sources of energy, greater incorporation of science and innovation as well as ensuring universal access to broadband and wireless services as a right for all Jamaicans, with a specific focus on rural Jamaica. Sonja Anderson-Byfield is a consultant with expertise in estate planning, succession, and trust law. She was admitted to the Jamaican Bar in 1999, having successfully completed her Bachelor of Law Degree (Upper Second-Class Honours). Her certificate quickly followed this in Legal Education. Sonja possesses extensive knowledge and understanding of civil law, estates and succession. She joined the Administrator-General Department's team of attorneys-at-law in May 2000. The Administrator General's Department is an executive government agency that administers all estates in Jamaica where a person dies without a will, leaving minor beneficiaries. She quickly ascended the ranks, moving from Case Attorney to Manager, Legal Services. Sonja later secured the Director of Legal Services role, with direct managerial responsibilities for the Legal Section. Most of her expertise and skills were honed from her eight years at the Administrator General's Department. Sonja sat on the First Heritage Cooperative Credit Union Credit Committee and was a member of the LAMP Fund Board. She often volunteers, giving legal talks to groups on proper estate planning.
