Founded in 1953, Lancaster Public Library provides direct service s to more than 480,000 residents of its community. It also serves as a district center that provides interlibrary loan and reference service s to more than 15 independent libraries statewide. The library is the central facility for the library system that serves throughout Lancaster in Pennsylvania. Lancaster Public Library has a collection of more than 760,000 volumes. The library uses the Unicorn library automation system. In addition, Lancaster Public Library participates in a shared automation system that is provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library System consortium. The library's automation system is hosted by vendors through an application service provider arrangement. Lancaster Public Library is located in Lancaster, Pa.
