Established in 1919, the Maine Correctional Center works for the maintenance of public safety of the citizens in Maine. It offers a range of rehabilitation, intervention, educational and treatment programs and services for juvenile and adult offenders. The center provides prisoners with opportunities to repay the community through participation in public service work and restitution. It houses male and female prisoners, as well as works to make them accept responsibility for their own behavior, family obligations and actions in the community. Located in Windham, Maine, the Maine Correctional Center is operated by the Maine Department of Correction, which offers a prison industry enhancement certification program that features employment services for prisoners.
