Temple Beth El, which overlooks Springhouse Road and Route 22, is a thriving, conservative Jewish congregation that was founded in Allentown in 1919. The first services were held in a room, then a hall, and by 1949, a new temple was established at 17th and Hamilton Streets in Allentown.

But as the congregation continued to grow, Temple Beth El looked to relocate to the suburbs, raising money and working toward building a new synagogue. The congregation's drive and dedication was realized in 2006, when the new, 33,500 square foot synagogue opened in South Whitehall. It holds the stained glass, as well as a cornerstone, from the original synagogue.
