The Florida Aquarium is a nonprofit institution dedicated to public entertainment, education and conservation. The aquarium facility has more than 10,000 aquatic plants and animals from over 1,340 species native to Florida and from throughout the world. It offers a wide range of educational programs and activities to its registered members that include sleepovers, classes, lectures, field excursions, scout badge workshops and field trips. The aquarium has provided cultural enrichment experiences to nearly 6 million visitors, including more than 250,000 school students and teachers. It works in association with Shedd Aquarium, Project Seahorse and the University of Tampa on educational and research programs in seahorse conservation. Established in 1995, The Florida Aquarium has more than 200,000 square feet facility, and is located in Tampa, Fla.
