Founded in 1920, Disabled American Veterans is a nonprofit organization that serves disabled veterans and their families. It represents more than 200,000 veterans and their dependents with claims for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense every year. The organization s Voluntary Services (VA) Program operates a comprehensive network of volunteers who provide free rides to and from VA medical facilities and improve care and morale for veterans. It maintains more than 105 offices throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The organization also assists veterans in filing claims for disability compensations, pensions, death benefits, and rehabilitation, education, employment and training programs. In addition, it provides counseling and community outreach solutions. The organization s transition service program assists soldiers, sailors and guardsmen for returning into civilian life.
