Started in 1999, Voices Community Stories Past and Present Inc. is a community-based nonprofit organization that documents Tucson region's community stories for inspirational purposes. Based in Tucson, Ariz., the organization mentors low-income youth. It focuses on mentoring projects that blend oral history, creative writing and photo documentation. Some of the organization's publications include Snapped On The Street and the bilingual stories of public housing residents in Don't Look At Me Different/No Me Veas Diferente. It serves more than 100 youth per fiscal year in Pima County. Voices Community Stories Past and Present Inc. uses photography, photo documentation, creative nonfiction, journalism, oral history, digital storytelling, spoken word and dance forms for its various projects.
