Constructed from 1850 - 1851 in the Greek Revival architecture style, the building is unique as the state legislature does not meet here.

Cute capitol building even though it's very small. Security is very kind and informative. There is plenty street parking around. Interesting history in and around the building.

Lucas Tavern

Lucas Tavern, located in Montgomery, Alabama, is a historic landmark that played a significant role in the settling of the state during the early 19th century. As one of the oldest buildings in the area, it served as a vital stop along the Federal Road, providing food, shelter, and information to travelers heading to the Alabama Territory. Today, visitors can explore the restored tavern and learn about its rich history as a hub for pioneers and the famous Marquis de La Fayette. Originally a two-room dogtrot, Lucas Tavern has undergone architectural changes over the years, including the addition of shed rooms and the enclosure of the dogtrot. Despite its various uses and periods of abandonment, much of the original interior remains intact. Now part of Old Alabama Town, the tavern serves as the entrance to the Living Block and offers guided tours of the nearby Ordeman-Shaw House. A visit to Lucas Tavern provides a fascinating glimpse into Alabama's past and its connection to the westward expansion of the United States.Generated from the website
