Recreation & Parks is one of the departments operated by the government of Bakersfield, Calif. The department maintains more than 45 parks located throughout the city, including the Kern River Parkway and Centennial Plaza. Its parks offers a wide range of amenities, such as basketball courts, grills, golf courses, gymnasiums, multipurpose rooms, pavilions, picnic areas, skate parks and public utilities. The department s parks also offer several other amenities, including softball fields, swimming pools, tennis and volleyball courts, water spray parks, and soccer and rugby facilities. It also has various community centers that organize a wide range of events and activities, such as dancing, Spanish lessons, flower arranging, yoga and swimming classes for infants and adults. The department runs park watch community programs for increasing safety of parks.
