Established in 1913, the Banning Police Department is a law enforcement agency that employs more than 60 sworn officers and civilians. It offers a variety of services, such as field patrol, fingerprinting, gun permit, animal control, bicycle registration, and accident and crime reporting and investigations. The Banning Police Department maintains a narcotics task force, detective bureau, community special enforcement team, emergency tactical unit and gang task force. The department supports the Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program, which provides a school-based, officer-instructed program that includes classroom instruction and various learning activities.
