The world famous Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is the home of the Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars. The building itself is a large monolithic structure with glass doors and a fountain. Palm trees and landscaping decorate the main entrance. The main lobby is round with two 15-foot Oscars guarding the Dunn Theater auditorium entrance. The Academy building was built in 1947 and was named after Mary Pickford, a silent film star and founding member. The Mary Pickford Center houses the Dunn Theater, the Academy Film Archive and the Science and Technology Council. The Academy building also houses a TV studio, where the Johnny Carson Show, Barney Miller and the Newlywed Game were shot.
