The Naval Facilities Engineering Command, also known as NAVFAC, manages the planning, design and construction services for the U.S. Navy shore facilities worldwide. It also oversees contingency engineering, real estate, environmental and public works support services. The command works for meeting the operations, expeditionary support and training needs of the Navy. It is one of the major navy systems commands throughout the United States. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command is a member of the Navy and Marine Corps teams. It was established in 1842 as the Bureau of Navy Yards and Docks. Additionally, the command operates a business line of asset management that focuses on administration of real estate properties.
