<p>Named after once local Native American tribes, Ohlone Elementary School was established in 1979. It is Hercules' oldest elementary school.</p> <p>For the last school year, it had enrollment of 456 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Each grade level had an average of 76 students and an average of 20.5 students per class.</p> <p>Ohlone Elementary School is part of the West Contra Costa School District. In the 2007-2008, it spent $5,337 per student -- compared to $4,536 per student in the district and&nbsp; $5,512 in the state. However, $949 of Ohlone Elementary School's expenditures was supplemental.&nbsp;</p> <p>Ohlone Elementary students tested an average of 14.7 percentage points higher than other schools in the district and 1.7 percent higher than the state average in English, math and science.</p> <p>Ohlone Elementary School, for which Liz Lonsdale is principal, has 120 limited english proficient students, representing 14 different native languages.</p> <p>Students are required to wear uniforms that are made up of navy or khaki pants, navy or white button or polo shirts, or the burgundy school shirts.</p> <p>Parents can participate in school operations in a number of ways including volunteering as library assistants, trip chaperones, student tutors, and classroom parents.</p> <p>Ohlone Elementary School mission statement: "At Ohlone School we believe that all children benefit from rigorous, student-centered and standards-based instruction.
