The Louisville Police Department maintains a staff of more than 35 officers that serves the total population of over 20,000 residents. It has a code enforcement unit that addresses public health and safety issues, including regulations related to garbage, removal of vegetation, zoning, dangerous buildings, housing and inoperable vehicles on private property. The department maintains a team of uniformed patrol officers that handles cases related to lost children, medical emergencies, traffic accidents, crime prevention presentations. It also conducts follow-up investigations of deaths, child abuse, sexual assaults, robberies, burglaries, serious thefts, credit card crimes, fugitives and drug offenses.
