Archuleta County Sheriff operates as a part of the county government. Based in Pagosa Springs, Colo., the office is responsible for the protection of citizens in the county. It serves a population of approximately 40,000 residents. Some of the services the office provides include emergency, civil processes, ranch watch, animal control, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) inspection and detention/sentencing programs. The sheriff's department also performs general law enforcement patrol as well as criminal, narcotics and crime scene investigations.
