Cannondale Station first opened in 1852 and was a busy stop by 1856. However, between the 1870s and 1890s, the station was not regularly served.

Today, the station provides service on the Metro-North Railroad on the Danbury Branch of the New Haven Line and is located just over 50 miles from Grand Central Station in New York City.

The station has 140 parking spaces, which are all owned by the state, and travel time to New York is approximately 1.5 hours, depending on transfer times (there is usually one required in Stamford or South Norwalk).

There are no ticket machines available at Cannondale Station, but tickets may be purchased at the nearby Wilton Station. One-way tickets to Grand Central cost $13.50 during peak hours when purchased at the station and $10 off-peak. Round trip tickets are $27 during peak hours and $20 off-peak. Costs are significantly higher when purchasing tickets on board the train. Discounted fares are available for children, families and seniors, as well as multi-trip tickets. A weekly pass is available for $93 and a monthly pass is priced at $292, though avoiding I-95 traffic may be priceless to some.
