Beacon House serves offers independent living options to adolescent women. It provides various life skills and vocational training, as well as counseling services. The house serves legal assistants, nurses, waitresses, bank tellers, food managers, child care providers, cashiers and real estate agents and offers a range of individual, group and family therapies. Beacon House is a part of Living In Safe Alternatives, which is a private, nonprofit organization that serves the needs of abused, abandoned, adjudicated and neglected youths. Also known as LISA, the organization operates several group homes that are licensed by the Connecticut Department of Children and Families. It features a community life skill program that provides instruction on various topics, including money and food management, drug awareness, and career and vocational training.
