<p>This service-oriented Roman Catholic parish, led by Monseignor William Scheyd, includes 2,500 families with members of all ages. St. Aloysius celebrates special weekly Masses for young children and teens, and has a weekly off-site Mass for the elderly residents at the Waveny Care Center.</p> <p>The church serves the wider community through several Parish Groups, including the Martha and Mary Ministries and a growing youth group, often working in collaboration with the local food bank and Red Cross.&nbsp;It is a tithing parish, with 10 percent of all income donated to the needy.</p> <p>Religious education is another important mission of the church. St. Aloysius School offers a curriculum for kindergarten through the eighth grade and serves a student body from New Canaan, Darien, Norwalk and other nearby towns.</p> <p><br />St. Aloysius is an integral part of the 160-year history of Catholic life in New Canaan. The parish was founded in 1896 and the old red brick Gothic church was dedicated in 1917. The new church was built in 1967, after which the old building was converted into the rectory and parish center.</p>
