Established in 1921, the Dover Police Department provides a range of law enforcement services for the general public. It features a holding cell, indoor firing range, communications center and equipment storage facility, as well as locker, conference and training rooms. The department offers traffic safety, education, crime prevention, and drug and alcohol addiction recovery programs. It additionally provides crime investigation, witness interviewing, accident site reconstruction, training and emergency medical services. It also offers inspection, facility maintenance, documentation, and data compiling and procurement services. The Dover Police Department has a staff of more than 80 sworn officers, over 20 civilians and nearly 5 volunteers.
