Founded in 1962, America's Blood Centers is one of North America s largest networks of nonprofit, community blood centers. Located in Washington, D.C., ABC's United States members are licensed and regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. It serves more than 180 million people at over 600 collection sites. It also provides blood products and services to more than 4,200 hospitals and health care facilities throughout North America. America s Blood Centers programs and services include blood safety advocacy, communications, disaster preparedness, education, government relations, medical and technical and publications. ABC members provide a majority of U.S. tissue, bone marrow, stem cell and transfusion services. It provides leadership in the areas of transfusion medicine, testing and blood component production through programs and services headed by its scientific, medical, technology and quality committees. Additionally, ABC facilitates numerous marketing and public relations efforts, including national blood drives, the development of national blood donation awareness campaigns and media outreach.
