Manna is one of the leaders among nonprofit community development organizations in Washington, D.C. This organization serves low and moderate-income families, assisting with renovating and building homes, educating homebuyers and training community leaders. Manna began in 1982 out of a family and child service and advocacy organization called For Love of Children. The organization took its name from the biblical account where God fed the Hebrews with manna from heaven. In its more than 20 years of existence, Manna has completed and sold more than 800 homes throughout the area. In 2003, Manna also incorporated the city s first and only nonprofit licensed mortgage company, called Manna Mortgage, offering home purchase and refinance loans targeted to traditionally underserved low-income homebuyers and homeowners.
