PATH was founded as the Program for the Introduction and Adaptation of Contraceptive Technology (PIACT) in 1977. PIACT transitioned to PATH in 1980. PATH is a nonprofit organization that focuses on the improvement of health of people worldwide. It has more than 30 offices in various countries, including Belgium, Cambodia, China, France, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Peru, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda and the United States. The organization has a staff of nearly 700 employees. PATH works on a range of global health issues, such as health technologies, emerging and epidemic diseases, maternal and child health, and vaccines and immunization. It has operations in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. PATH is a member of the Global Health Council and ONE Campaign. The organization has received the Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship.
