Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments is a regional organization that assists local, state and federal planning activities. It consists of more than 20 local governments and is funded by private donations and federal and state grants. The organization coordinates and integrates planning policies for land, transportation and environment. It also manages various health and human services programs that include substance abuse control, adoption, foster care and educational services. The organization s public safety programs include law enforcement, fire protection and emergency preparedness. Located in Washington, D.C., the organization also conducts various workshops, seminars, presentations and field trips to preserve forestry resources. Its cooperative purchasing program promotes continuing education among procurement professionals.
