Founded in 1957, the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments is an independent, nonprofit association that offers transportation, housing, planning, health and human services. It also provides homeland security and public safety solutions. The association s environmental services include air quality check , airport noise abatement, urban forestry, recycling, solid waste management and green infrastructure. In addition, it purchases a range of emergency equipment. The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments offers homeland security programs, as well as communicable disease and substance abuse control, regional notification and monitoring solutions.
