Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure made a huge splash in 2010 when it added the Wizarding World of Harry Potter -- a themed section based on the blockbuster book and movie series by J.K. Rowling -- to its other rides and attractions themed off Marvel Comics super heroes, Dr. Seuss and action films such as "Jurassic Park." Now guests can grab a Butterbeer and explore Hogwarts castle in between chasing the park's considerable other thrills. Three Must-See Attractions at Universal's Islands of Adventure
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is a motion-based ride that transports you through the corridors of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, past a myriad of magical movie creatures and through the Forbidden Forest. Experience Bruce Banner's dark side on the Incredible Hulk, an intense green machine of a roller coaster that takes you on seven inversions and from zero to 40 mph in just two seconds. Or scale skyscrapers and survive a 400-foot simulated free fall as you help Spidey save the Statue of Liberty on the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, a high-definition 3-D thriller.

Where to Stay Near Universal's Islands of Adventure
Universal Orlando Resort has four on-site hotels within walking distance of the park -- the luxurious Loews Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific and Hard Rock Hotel and the value-priced Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Cabana Bay is generally about half the price of the upscale trio. A wide range of chain and economy hotels are located along nearby International Drive and Universal Boulevard. For basic but clean and comfortable accommodations often under $90, try the Rosen Inn at 6327 International Drive, less than 2 miles from Islands of Adventure and a short walk from Wet 'n Wild Orlando.

Best and Worst Time to Go To Universal's Islands of Adventure
Park hours typically are from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. during holidays and the summer season, with slightly later opening times and earlier closing times in less-busy months. The best times to avoid the crowds typically are weekdays from late April to late May (before Memorial Day) or from mid-September to mid-November. The busiest seasons include March and early April near Easter and from Thanksgiving to New Year's. Get there at the park's opening from late spring to early fall to skirt the worst of Florida's heat and afternoon storms.

Discounts at Universal's Islands of Adventure
Normal park admission is about $150, with slightly lower prices for children ages 3-9. Discounted multi-day packages and Florida resident passes also are available, as are annual passes for Florida residents. In addition, the four on-site hotels offer vacation packages that include accommodations and park tickets at a reduced rate.

Food at Universal's Islands of Adventure
Like IOA's attractions, the park's restaurants stay in character, with choices including the Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous, Comic Book Cafe, Captain America Diner and Blondie's, home of the Dagwood. Most feature casual, fast-food options with prices from $7 to $12. If you only try one, make it Mythos, a restaurant in the Lost Continent set among rock formations, waterfalls and etchings of the famed Greek gods. Sandwiches and entrees -- including such treats as Cranberry Blue Cheese Crusted Pork, Mythos Beef Medallions, Pan Seared Mahi Mahi and a "Risotto of the Day" -- range from $12 to $20.

Parking at Universal's Islands of Adventure
A parking fee of $17 to $25 is required at the gate, and valet parking is available for an additional fee. The resort has huge parking garages with ample parking even on busy days. Some annual passes often include parking, and all Florida residents can park free after 6 p.m.

Transportation Alternatives at Universal's Islands of Adventure
On-site Universal Orlando hotels have walkways to Islands of Adventure, as well as complimentary shuttles to the park. The three upscale resorts also provide water taxi service at no charge. Many other hotels in the area also provide free shuttle service to IOA, so ask before you complete your reservation.
