Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport FLL is located about 3 miles southwest of the Fort Lauderdale city center. Currently, FLL airport is the 21st busiest airport in the United States with regard to passenger traffic and in the top 50 of the world’s busiest airports. Originally opened in 1929 as Merle Fogg Airport it later became a United States Navy base dedicated to refitting civilian airliners into military aircraft.
