Monroe County Sheriff's Department provides law enforcement services to nearly all of the Florida Keys, which includes approximately 112 miles of islands off the southern tip of Florida. The department employs nearly 200 road patrol officers and detectives, approximately 150 correction officers and nearly 160 support staff. Monroe County Sheriff's Department is also in charge of the more than 80 members of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Group. The department maintains detention facilities in Stock Island, Marathon and Plantation Key, Fla., as well as nearly five patrol substations. Monroe County Sheriff's Department also has a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, as well as a dive team, bomb squad, special investigations unit and two K-9 teams. The Sheriff's Department maintains its headquarters in Key West, Fla.
