Founded in 1940, the Stenotype Institute is a court reporting school with campuses in Jacksonville and Orlando. The Jacksonville campus occupies 23,800 square feet, including 15 classrooms, a computer lab, a transcription lab, a library, an auditorium, a bookstore and student/faculty lounges. The Orlando campus occupies 30,000 square feet which includes 12 classrooms, computer lab, transcription lab, library and student and faculty lounges. The institute admits students having a high school diploma or a GED certificate. It offers course program in basic machine shorthand, providing the student with skills necessary to pursue a career as a freelance reporter, an official court reporter, a steno interpreter or a captionist. Additionally, the school provides financial loans and grants to qualified candidates, alternative training and career-track advice for those not completing their initially-intended curriculum and also part-time employment with local court reporting firms.
