Hiawassee is a town in and the county seat of Towns County, Georgia, United States. The population was 810 at the 2000 census. Its name comes from the Cherokee word Ayuhwasi, which means a meadow.
Hiawassee is located at 34°56′58″N 83°45′18″W / 34.94944°N 83.755°W / 34.94944; -83.755 (34.949428, -83.755078).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.6 km²), of which, 1.7 square miles (4.4 km²) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.2 km²) of it (21.86%) is water.
