History

Starting as a canoe tour operator in Athens, Ga - the Broad River Outpost was opened after running many successful trips to the Broad River. With no previous outfitters on the Broad River, developing a demand / loyal following took many years. The BRO started with only a handful of canoes and slowly increased the numbers and types of boats. Our kayak rental started with 'odd' numbered groups needing a solo boat. Having bought a 'minow' for my 6 yr old daughter, we offered it to the odd man/woman. It was so popular that we now rent far more kayaks, both sit-on and sit-in, than canoes. More user friendly than a canoe in whitewater, kayaks have evolved to allow almost 'anyone' to enjoy running beginner whitewater on the Broad River. While not as versatile and requiring more skill, the canoe is still the more popular boat for extended camping trips [where whitewater is involved]. We continue to change so as to meet the changing needs of our clients.

Specialties

Since 1985, The BRO offers a variety of boat types for the varied tastes of our diverse customer base. This allows for nearly all ages of clients to enjoy the river. Those looking for a mellow float, multi day camping or whitewater. Groups welcome. The BRO has shuttle service [ buses] to the different sections of the river for private boaters as well those renting our boats. On site Camping is in a wooded adjacent area, semi-private w/no-RVsc and it's use is restricted to paddlers and those in their group. $1 donation to the BRWA.org [ local land trust] per camper per night. Vehicles $1 per day. Instruction, group rates, and good advise are available. Parking lots / shuttles run from either end of the Whitewater section. Both lots are either next to or close to paved State Highways. Open March through October - year round for groups. We accept Visa/Master cards, cash or checks. Rates are $15 per person wkdays, $20 wkend/holidays 706.795.3242 www.broadriveroutpost.com

If you are a private boater, like me, you may not be welcome. I arrived today at 3:05 and was told in explicit terms that because I would only be paying a $20 shuttle fee and not renting their...
