Founded in 1973, The Community School is a college preparatory that serves students in kindergarten through grade 12. Its core curriculum includes English, science, math, social studies and physical education. The school offers various sports activities, such as hockey, basketball, skiing, tennis, soccer, martial arts, volleyball, golf and cross-country. The Community School s fine arts curriculum includes painting, printmaking, ceramics, photography and computer graphics. It provides assistance and individualized programming to students with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia and hyperactivity, language and attention deficit disorders. The school also offers classes in language arts, drama, dance, music and foreign language. It maintains an early childhood center, writing lab and library. The Community School s Outdoor Program helps to foster personal growth and teaches wilderness skills. In addition, it operates an environmental club.
