Crete is a village in Will County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,346 at the 2000 census. Originally named Wood's Corner, it was founded in 1836 by Vermonters Dyantha and Willard Wood.
Crete is located at 41°27′21″N 87°37′8″W / 41.45583°N 87.61889°W / 41.45583; -87.61889 (41.455910, -87.618798).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.4 square miles (16.6 km²), of which, 6.4 square miles (16.5 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.47%) is water. Crete is located about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Illinois Route 394 and within 40 miles (64 km) of downtown Chicago.
