Golconda is a city in Pope County, Illinois, along the Ohio River. The population was 726 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Pope County. The entire city has been designated a state Historic District.
Golconda is located at 37°21′50″N 88°29′12″W / 37.36389°N 88.48667°W / 37.36389; -88.48667 (37.363844, -88.486792).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²), of which, 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (5.08%) is water.
