South Barrington is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States south of Barrington, Illinois. The population was 3,760 at the 2000 census. South Barrington is a wealthy suburb of Chicago and home to the famous megachurch Willow Creek Community Church. The village is known throughout the area for its extreme affluence, and is on the list of the 100 wealthiest towns in the nation. The Arboretum of South Barrington is a new lifestyle center located within the village limits.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.9 square miles (17.8 km²), of which, 6.6 square miles (17.0 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (4.52%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,760 people, 1,147 households, and 1,060 families residing in the village. The population density was 573.6 people per square mile (221.3/km²). There were 1,172 housing units at an average density of 178.8 per square mile (69.0/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 94.34% White, 0.88% African American, 0.05% Native American, 3.33% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 1.78% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.84% of the population.
