Archdiocese of Chicago was established as a diocese in 1843 and became an archdiocese in 1880. Located in Chicago, it serves more than 2 million Catholics in Cook and Lake counties in northeastern Illinois. It is spread on an area of more than 1,000 square miles. Archdiocese of Chicago s archbishop is supported by various advisors, the vicar general and the chancellor who coordinate parish life, central services and responsibilities of the archbishop.
