St. James Armenian Church Evanston has served the largest concentration of the Armenian community in Chicago since 1944. The parish is located in the heart of downtown at the doorstep of the University. Its diverse congregation numbers about 200 people from all corners of the Armenian world--Turkey, the Middle East and the Republic of Armenia--as well as many downtown professionals and families who are third and fourth generation in the parish. St. James offers an active Sunday School and young adults group (ACYOA) as well as a Women's Guild and its Kousan Choir. The parish is best known as host of Evanston's annual Taste of Armenia Festival which draws more than 2,500 people of all ethnic backgrounds for a leisurely day of charcoal-grilled kebab and home-cooked Armenian delicacies, live music for dancing, special cultural presentations and games for the kids.
