Established in 1873, the Chicago Public Library operates a network of more than 70 branch libraries throughout the city. Its central library is at the Harold Washington Library Center. The library offers a wide range of books, periodicals, newspapers, documents, videos and educational databases. It offers various services to its members, including Internet access, the use of computers, summer reading programs for children, homework help centers and book workshops. The special collections and preservation division of the Chicago Public Library maintains an archive of posters, book arts, documentary films, photographs and historical artifacts. The library has an online catalog of its materials.
