Credit Union 1, then Chanute Military Credit Union, opened its doors in 1958 on the Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill. It was created to serve military personnel and their families. When the U.S. government closed Chanute Air Force Base in 1982, the credit union began accepting non-military clients and was renamed Credit Union 1. It now serves more than 100,000 members throughout the state of Illinois, as well as worldwide.
