Hub Group, a more than $1 billion transportation company, is one of the largest intermodal marketing companies in the United States. As an IMC, Hub arranges for the movement of freight in containers and trailers for long distances. The company contracts with railroads to provide transportation for the long-haul portion of the shipment and with local trucking companies for pickup and delivery. As part of its intermodal services, it negotiates rail and drayage rates, electronically tracks shipments in transit, consolidates billing and handles claims on behalf of its customers. Hub is one of the largest truckload brokers in the United States. The company has contracts with a substantial base of carriers allowing it to meet the varied needs of its customers. Hub Group, established in 1971, operates through a network of more than 30 offices located throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, including a location in Downers Grove, Ill.
